I have a K321 crank and connecting rod.  Besides measuring the crank end of the connecting rod, how can you tell if it's an underside rod?  I know pistons will be marked with .010, .020, or .030.  Do they do the same thing with connecting rods for the Kohlers?  Is there also a way to tell if the connecting rod is a Kohler made part or an aftermarket part?

Thanks

Great question. I want to hear too. I for some reason don’t think they are marked. But I could very well be wwwwrrroong. You said undersized rod. Would it not be oversized rod and undersized crank journal. Just wondering. I always get that stuff mixed up.

I believe you're correct!

If they turn the crank journal down by .010 then the connecting rod would be oversized by .010.

Factory Kohler .010 undersize connecting rods have a small hole drilled in the web of the beam nearer the big end. I've seen 30 or 40 of them.

You really have to get mics or calipers that measure to 0.0001". The crank needs 9 measurements on the rod journal. I am not sure how many on the rod. The Kohler inspection sheet shows how to measure it all and the Kohler Manual will give the specs. I always use plastic gauge too just to be sure. Good Luck, Rick

I believe the rod would be 10 under same as the crank. You are measuring the hole in the rod and that would have to be 10 tho smaller or under to maintain oil clearance. If the hole was 10 over it would be very lose and sloppy.   Don
