How does one get the hard plastic out of the back. And is there any info on testing these. Thanks. Looked in the manuals but didn’t see any thing.

This guy is a member here but spends most of his time on MTF. He and his father have repaired several of these, he said it's usually a diode or resistor that goes bad. I think lawn and Garden mag did an article on them. 

 

I've tried a torch and his method of the hot oil, both work, just have to take your time.

If I remember correctly (debatable) they used acetone to dissolve the epoxy potting.
