Of all the things that I have done over the past 50 years, being a Dad is number one and being a US Army Combat Engineer Platoon Leader was number two.* Just trying to meet the standards set by our Dads' generation. Thanks to all who served and the families that supported them.

*It is not politically correct to have enjoyed your service. In a job interview 8 years ago I was asked what was the best job that I had. I said a Combat Engineer Platoon Leader. The remfs interviewing me were horrified. They just couldn't understand nor do most people.

What is the opposite of enjoying it???

Did you get the Job?

Of course not. They gave the job(a heavy construction inspector) to a woman with no training nor experience. She screwed up royally and then turned around and sued the people that hired her.

I guess that the opposite of enjoying it, would have been hating it. I was scared/thrilled/more alive/furious, it was an adrenaline rush. I walked around with a big smile on my face most of the time. The men thought that I was crazy(maybe I am or maybe its just the rest of the world). I Got the nick name of "LT Smiley". I know that they were ridiculing me but I had a WWII vet friend that always smiled too and that was the way I was. Eight months after leaving the platoon I ended up in Army Hospitols for 5 months. That sucked but, I survived despite the doctors efforts to off me. My survival was a professional embaressment to them.

USAF 59-61 (recruiter victim) Air Police FEWAFB, missiles. I had two years of honorable service and didn't know I was screwing up until they said they were discharging me. I didn't really like the job anyway.

Thank you to all who served.
