Hi all, I like having a gas gauge so for my 3 Power Kings I've bought new gas cap gauges for all of them, got them from Mission anyway the one in the 76 1614 is just over 2 yrs old and this past summer maybe August it stopped working the float wouldn't float so yesterday took it out and placed it in front of the shop heater this morning tried it in the toilet bowl and it was working placed it in the gas tank and it was working so I'm thinking the float *its some kind if foam) didn't get sealed good and its soaking up gas. Removed the cork float from one of the old gauges and put it in the newer gauge and its working good the question I have what kind of sealant could be used I was thinking of maybe shellac used on aircraft cork floats and it worked good but not sure about using it on foam float

I don't think shellac will work with the crap gas we have to deal with these days . Sorry I'm no help here.

Seal-All has been around for years and the only product I've seen that works with gasoline.
Might be worth a try,
