Tuesday night Lily and her daughter Annie got into it (nothing new) and Lily fell off a chair onto the floor. She was hopping around on three legs and didn't get over it, so she went to the vet. She has a dislocated right hip and needs surgery to repair it. Manipulating it manually didn't work. $1600.00. A lot of money for a 13yo worn out dog, but we couldn't do anything else.

That's unfortunate but dogs tend to wait until their final year to bleed you dry. Our little hound requires meds i bring back from USA. Customs asks what I got. I tell them DRUGS for our dogs anal glands. They wave me on, don't want to hear no more! She's a 15 year old Portuguese Podenco

They do become part of the family! Too bad the medical doesn't cover them!

Sorry for you but you can rest assured that you did do the right thing. At her age there is a good chance that the hip would have continued to bother her.

Poor little girl, it's awful when your kids get tough and won't take your word for it!  Mothers and daughters don't always get along. Pet health insurance does exist and lots of people use it, but I wonder if it's like most other insurance seems to be.... always a loophole there that favours the company, not the policy holder.  I hope she's back on her feet and feeling better soon.

She came home yesterday evening with a four inch sutured gash and a bad hair cut. We were told it will be months of recovery.

Our 15 yo is mostly blind and deaf. During the day there is enough light so she can move around. First thing in the morning I have to turn lights on for her to get down the hall. We asked the vet about fixing one eye and she said it would be over $2000 and too risky to put her under. I made a ramp for her to get to back steps to go out.
