They had a slanted cylinder engine in the late 90s that I remember seeing though I have never worked on one yet. definitely newer than the rest of the mower

Very puzzling but found it lol.

Kohler command 5 or 6 hp.  They look funky because the recoil is mounted at an angle and the gas tank is wedge shaped and the funky plastic cover that covers the metal blower housing.

Here have a look at Pages 75-78. It's the service manual for that engine. Can't seem to find a parts manual for them. If you take all the plastic off they look like a Honda GX160 or Honda clone engine.

Impressive specs for the 5hp with 8.4fl lbs @ 2200rpm  The Honda GX160 is 5.5hp and 7.59ft lbs @ 2500rpm

Difference between the 5hp and 6hp is carb jetting that's why there is only 0.2ft lbs difference in torque. Same bore and stroke on both. They were made from 1989-1994 and some were equipped with electric start.

Found a couple of pics of Just an engine without the gas tank or muffler and shroud.

Bet those are hard to find parts for lol

I would think that would be the ultimate for a go kart.  I am constantly amazed by how members on this site can answer about anything.
