I have a 7012 factory kohler, has been repowered with a briggs 16hp. engine has 3 wires coming out of it. one is black with solid copper wire, red and white wires going to a plug. where do these 3 wires go? the tractor is key start, yet there is no voltage regulator. thanks for the help!

seems 2 wires are alternator and other is kill switch

Which are which I am not sure and hope you can figure it out

Hope this helps some

Attached is parts manual for your engine

If engine runs use a 12v test light on the wires

Thinking the stranded wires are for alt and should light the light if working

If its a kill wire then engine should shut off when you hook test light to it

the black solid copper wire is the kill wire, it goes to the ignition coil, the red is the alt that charges the battery an it has a diode wired inline right by the plug to keep power from flowing back when motor is off so battery dont discharge. the white is acc power for lights. the stator is a 2 part one, half is for charging, half for powering lights.
