Some what John Deere related. I have an AMF 1414 with the early 68-69 john deere trans. What would it take to do a rear end upgrade to the 2 speed locking diff trans. I plan on building this tractor up and already have the repower. A locking diff would be sweet with the 3 point

The John Deere locking diffs only came on the 400, 420, and 430 tractors and maybe later 400 series, 140's never had a locking diff option. The only early Deere tractor that came close was certain 112's that had a limited slip diff, but there was only a few made.

I know 140s don't have a locking diff. I know some people swap in a 420 diff. Can I swap in a 420 diff or is there to many mods to be done

I"m not sure about a AMF1414, but I think some mods are needed to put a 420 rear in a 140, especially a early 140. The later ones had the same rears as the 300, 312, 314 both 316's and the 318. the only difference was in the brakes.

Thanks. I will see if I can find a 420 trans. I think it would be a good project. The 1414 is a large tractor so I think it is doable

Axle width is different but I don't recall what it takes to make the swap work.
