My brother has a John Deere 110 1965 model with 8 hp Kohler.
The Tractor was bought new by his wife's granfather.
And Del bought it when he went into a nursing home.
About 25 yrs ago Del overhauled the motor and repainted it(Del was an auto bodyman for 33 yrs). Del has 3 lots and says he can mow about 1/2 and it shuts down and won't start till it cools down. He said he had replaced the coil and points.
Any idea what may be opening the circuit(killing it) that would close when cool?

Has he checked to make sure the vent on his gas cap isn't plugged up. He might want to check the plug wire and condenser.

A couple good points there. I would assume he changed condenser when he changed points?(I'll ask).
He did mention that he had not changed the spark plug or wire(and added he should have started there).
And it may be likely that he did not check the gas cap vent?

He was telling me he was thinking about getting another machine. I told him he would spend a bunch of money and was not likely to get one as good or at least any better than that 110. My first experience with a GT was when Dad bought one exactly like it. We mowed a ton of grass whith onyl 8 hp?

If I were you, I wouldn't let it get away if he decides to sell it. I think he will miss it.

So the spark is definitely gone when she dies? If so, it wouldn't be the 1st time a new coil was defective straight out of the box.

Sounds like you fellers have it covered, so I have nothing to add.
