My biggest problem with this motor is that the carburetor was junk. (and a dead SSI of course) For some reason, Tecumseh carburetors sell between $200 to $300 on eBay. I decided to take a chance and bought a $20 carburetor for a 14hp Kohler. (K341) amazingly the carburetor bolted up without modification, even the governor linkage connected without modification after drilling the hole slightly bigger in the throttle plate. I still have to hook up a choke linkage and I had to fabricate a plate to modify the air cleaner to fit the Kohler carburetor. This Tecumseh has an air cleaner fed by a tube from the blower cover at the flywheel. Down the road, I plan to use that air cleaner but need to pull the front of the tractor back off.
I plan to fabricate a new muffler to work with my original "Deluxe Muffler" with the chrome shield. The exhaust exits further back towards the dash, so the original muffler will not work. However, It appears that I can make it work with a custom build. For now, the original one will work.
If anyone has a photo of the choke cable set up for a Kohler, it would help. I think I have to cut the finger tab off the choke plate so the cable can connect to it, and I think I can run under the carb and go straight up to hook it up, but photos always help! I will also clean it up and spray a fresh coat of paint on it once all the details are worked out... but primer, for now, will get her running!
