Hey Everyone, I just picked up a free Ariens Gt20, and it is rednecked like crazy. The person before cut it all up and there are splices, and a lot of electrical tape. The main problem I am having is that when I try to engage the PTO the tractor dies and stalls. Anybody know what my problem might be, or know where I can find a wiring diagram? Thanks.

Welcome to the forums!
An easy place to get a manual with the wiring diagrams is Ariens website. Free download.
I would be guessing that there is a problem in the safety circuit. Bad switches, broken wire, or disconnected switches.

Welcome to GTT

sounds like the wiring for the seat switch is messed up. when the pto is engaged if no one is sitting in the seat the engine will stop for safety issues.

Post the model and serial numbers and maybe folks here can help look for diagram

thanks

Yes, there are several safety switches which can fail and folks like to jumper them. Trouble shooting is easy with a wiring diagram and test light or VOM. If has been cobbled badly, I would be inclined to buy some wire and start from scratch, at least on the safety circuits. If your time delay module has failed, best bet is to make your own for a few bucks instead of spending big bucks for a new one. Detailed info is available in previous threads. First thing I would do is provide battery voltage directly to PTO (be careful!) to make sure clutch isn’t shorting out or otherwise not working.

At the bottom of Ariens home page there is a button to find your manuals. It will ask for your model number and offers owners, service, and parts manuals.
