Vegetable garden is about done except for the pumpkins.  Apple trees are loaded this year.  Kept them sprayed and have very few with any sign of worms and have not found 12 worm as yet.  Do have some bee sting holes in a few.  Put 35 quarts for sliced apples in the freezer this morning.  Not completely ripe yet but just right for baking pies, apple bread, etc.  Be a couple weeks and the rest should be ready.  Need to get the cider press out and go over it so it is ready to go when I want it.  Will probably run close to15 -20 gallons of cider this year.  Neighbor brings down a case of qt. jars and I send him home with a case of apple cider.

Sounds great!  I wish I had a cider press!!!  I end up cooking mine down into a soup and straining out for juice.  Nice but lots of work.

What apple varieties do you have?

Always love apple season

Get to get the apple parer out

Its a commercial unit that was cut in half, use to do 2 apples at a time

It came out of Stokley's canning factory that use to be in Trenton Ontario Canada

Just a fun fact, you get around  2 liter of cider from a bushels of apple peelings and cores

Here is a video of the parer in action

We have Red and Yellow Delicious.  Gala tree is now and not bearing as yet.  I have my folks old White Mountain apple corer, peeler, slicer that still works great.  Apples come out a one ball of apple with continuous ring.   Should have grabbed some pics but once I got started my hands were covered with juice.  Will get some next time around and with the cider press also.  Goats will have a hay day for sure.

We just picked our last and latest variety of apple, Empire.  They were no where near as good as the last two years, I really didn't get enough spray on them and we had a very wet spring and summer.  Lots of 2nds and only a 1/4 bushel of 1sts.

Early this year too, last year we picked Empire October 4th, but we did the iodine test and they scored a 5 is right we want them...so off they came.
