Hi there  my buddy and I are working on adjusting an electric clutch. according to the ariens repair manual there should be a .062 gap between plate and field ,if less than.062 install shims behind center portion of clutch (item b?) then on the following page it states to adjust to .015 gap. We adjusted the gap to .018. but its seams the brake is constantly on.   That is the question should the brake item D be on at all times?  Seams the repair manual is talking about a different clutch than what is on the tractor. where should I install the shims. if the gap is greater that .062 then what?

Sounds like they are talking about two different places to gap but I would have to study the real clutch not a drawing to figure it out. Good Luck, Rick

My service manual says to adjust sir gap to .015". The .062 I'd for set to clear plate and the iniatal set up,clearance so plate and coil do not get damaged.Hope this helps

hi there my buddy and I fixed the clutch problem. the initial gap was about .065.  we gapped it down to .018 and the tractor, electric clutch and electric clutch brake  worked fine. Thanks for the help

The distance between item A and item B is a fixed distance from the factory. the adjustable distance is from item C to Item D. I gapped the clutch .018 between item B and Item C. now it comes on at cold start up and I can shut it off when hot then start it up again no problems
