A military cleaning is the first step when ever a militias software gets to operating on a hard drive.  The problem is when this software gets to the place on the hard drive where the system operating software is installed. When operating software gets infected it many times damaged bits in this section of the hard drive. Nothing can be done to repair these damaged bits & the only way to get operating software to operate on this hard drive is to rewrite it so that all is moved to a different location on the hard drive. When this happens replacing the hard drive is the best option. Over time the operating software has been improved & many times prevents this from happening. When new free software is offered online it temps many into think that these are improvement that cannot be resisted by many users. When Foxfire & Google Chrome was first offered there was many free down loads available. These free downloads allow hackers to do many things to a system. Family members in the learning process on computers are the most susceptible to this. Many of you have never used the first Windows, Windows 95, & Windows 98 but the many improvements & changes has been impressive many times.

Shred will eliminate the virus, the operating system, the boot sector, and every other bit or bite on the hard drive. There will be absolutely nothing left readable on the drive,  good or bad. The computer is then a brick the only instructions left on the computer is the Basic Input Output System. that lives in the read only memory. At that point you have to re install the operating system and every thing else that you want on the machine. When you get done the only malware on the computer will be something that you reinstalled. Hard drives and motherboards fail but not due software. Don

Yes but when bits are destroyed on the hard drive no software can be installed on those bits. When this happens where the operating system is installed it will no longer operate. This turns the hard drive into a paper weight & nothing more. Buy a new one.

Move on to Linux and enjoy life.  Hardware does fail but Have never seen bad software cause hardware failure.

I just spent all morning trying to get sound back on my Linux laptop. Steve installed some updates the other day. Shut the machine down later. Next time he turned it on, no sound! It's not fixed right, but I have a command to put in that will get the sound back until you shut it off!

I run Windows 10 with edge.  This site works well.  The only problem I see is when I want to reply.  The space bar causes an issue but I fix it by choosing replace on the tool bar and then choose cancel. It is all fixed after that and I can use the reply box fine.

The only other problem is a lot of older pictures don't show.  The pictures seem to be on a 3rd party site.

so we do not Hijack a thread here I will start a new thread in the PC Talk form.

I will just call it "LINUX"
