Hi everyone and thanks for the replys to my last thread. I am in need of some parts for my mower deck # 199-761 or 190-761 but it is a 42" deck with 3 blades. This is a strong built deck. 40 + years old and all the bearings are good. Here is what I am looking for, it has a 2 part drive shaft to the pto. I am missing the front part that attaches to the pto output shaft. My pto output shaft is 3/4"X7/8" rectangle solid metal stock with no holes or keyways in it. I need the input section of the pto shaft or dementions for this part so I can get one made. The part I have starts with the same size tube as the output from the pto 3/4"X7/8" rectangle solid metal stock. It looks from the ware on it there was a "slip sleeve" type part on part fo the front section , then I assume a u-joint and another yoke that would a set screw in it to hold it to the pto output. MTD does not seperate the parts out they just call it a pto shaft and give it a number. I also need some new blades for the deck. But I can't use the blades without the shaft. Thanks for any help you can give. Mark:wave:

I am also missing the front half of my pto shaft on my 990. I am going to build a new one. TSC has PTO shaft parts.

Hello and thank you for the reply. I have been told the 990 is a little longer then my 860 and would make the drive shaft longer? How much would you want for just the front (PTO end) of the drive shaft? I made a mistake in the statment I made about the PTO output size on my 860 it is 3/4" square, not 3/4"X7/8" rectangle. Also I have found a source that sells all the parts I need to make the front section(pto end) . Thanks for all the information you can offer. Mark

The 990 tractor being longer is not an issue my shaft came off of a gear drive. The part you need is probaly same as hydro ... the other half could be longer on 990 ... I have both tractors here with 42 inch decks and will investigate

pm me and thanks .... Will ... Johnnygreenfarmer@yahoo.com

It would be great if you could give us the length of the front shaft, Overall length of the front shaft and and the length after the universal joint.

I would be glad to do that and maybe you will share how you went about making them. I have 4 of them but need to keep three because they go with implements. I will need a day or two

also I will soon be a sponsor and selling parts. I have a 3ph with helper spring for one. a good clutch . good engines etc

Ok finally getting back with dimensions. This shaft fits both the gear drives and the 990 hydro. The other part of the shaft varies in length .... is longer for the 50 inch deck than the 42 inch etc.

The universal is 2 1/8 wide at widest location (you will need to work with whatever you can buy)

The universal is connected to the pto with two set screws 90 degrees apart and the screws are 5/16 inch

If you have more questions just ask.... The 5 inch dimension is to the end of the unit .... camera made an optical illusion
