I recently purchased a Gravely 1238-H, with several issues. The one issue that baffles me is where this bracket goes. One end was attached to the bottom of the PTO engagement/ tension pelley with a cotter pin. (The piece with only one hole ) It was just hanging when I got the tractor .<br />

It looks bent out of shape. Download the manuals from our Manuals Section. It looks like it is an attachment bracket. Good Luck, Rick

Did the tractor come with a mowing deck? Could be something related to that. I'm not familiar with the front engine riders.

Yes it did come with a deck.
I think it has to do with PTO belt tension adjustment.
I have searched in the manuals and partstree.com and I do not see my part listed.

This part was hanging downward. from the pulley (part 23) on shaft (24) held by the cotter pin (21)
I had to remove this becouse it was dragging on the mower belt.

Hmmm, I looked at some parts diagrams of the lift and deck.......nothing jumped out at me.

I notice there's a jagged edged sheet metal tab on the end of the bolt. Looks to be like it was torn, or rusted off something. Have you carefully looked over the tractor/deck to see if that matches up with something?

Whew......ok, pretty sure I found it. Looks like part #13, brake lever, and part #17, link. Info was taken from the heading:

44126 1238-H, 12hp B&S, 38" Deck, Gear Drive ROTARY MOWER 38"

Edit: That torn off piece should be off your deck right below part #6.

@tiretrex I got a chance to look at the tractor and you are correct, thank you very much!
Now I just need to figure out why the key is not starting the tractor, lol

Well.I was cleaning the tractor and removing the deck for cleaning and repairs. When I was done there was a part on the floor. Now I need to figure out what it is. This is the fun of old stuff (that someone else neglected) and venturing into a brand I know nothing about. LOL

I figured out that it is what secures the top half of the oil fill tube to the engine, LOL
