I picked this up yesterday.  I couldn't pass it up for $50!  The owner said it didn't run.  It's complete and in fairly good shape.  I have done nothing but haul it home.  Testing and troubleshooting to come.

>tsk!<  You took advantage of an impaired man. The seat should be worth that.

A steal for sure.  Looks in great shape except for the seat.  You will get tired of it sliding you under the steering wheel real fast.  If the engine is free you got a great tractor.

Funny...I thought that about the seat.  It is pretty cushy though.  You do sink in it pretty good.  The engine is free.  No play in the throttle shaft.

The guy had it listed as "Non running tractor" on my local CL.  I got lucky...I was second in line.  The first guy was a no-show.

Nice buy! Nice condition, looks like it will be a good tractor, it has the Tecumseh over head valve engine in it, its a nice engine.

Thief lol

Good score. Looks like it was last run not to long ago by the grass on the deck. Might not take much other than a good carb cleaning and some fresh fuel.

I'll be dragging one home soon also, but not at that price! I'm waiting for the seller to dig it out at his shop. Waiting patiently..................................

Yeah...it was weird.  I had no Bolens tractors in the fleet.  In the last three weeks, I got a 1557 and 1556, both in great (non-running) shape and for very little money.  I think I need to buy a lottery ticket!

It looks like EricFromPa might be correct.

Just to make this deal a little sweeter...I hooked up my jumper pack, sprayed some ether in the carb, and gave her a crank to see what would happen.  She fired up and purred until the ether ran out!  I'll do some fuel system maintenance and go from there, but it looks like it will take very little to put this machine back in service.

You lucky devil!  Even with no other attachments, that is a hell of a good steal for only $50!  And now the engine cranks over and runs too?  Apparently the seller must have suffered a traumatic brain injury to let that go for only $50!  I paid $350 last year for a non-running Bolens 1250 that was nowhere near in as nice shape as this 1556!  I just wanted a hydrostatic Bolens and for the price and distance I had to travel to pick it up, it seemed like an okay deal at the time...

I wish opportunities like this popped up anywhere near where I live...  But then again, I'd have a LOT more Bolens in my garage if they did!
