I'm in the process of trading for a Sears ST/16 with some attachments. The man claimed it ran 2 months ago and now it just stop running for him

I think It could be the carburetor just needs TLC/rebuild, it could also be the coil gone bad/lost adjustment/rusty connections between the coil and the flywheel. Bad starter/not enough juice, the air filter could be needed a replacement, flywheel losing magnetism.

That is all i can think of that may not be allowing the engine to fire up. I will be receiving a video from him in attempt to start it later on today.

Update: As i was typing this up, some new photos came to light.

That tractor not running with those attachments, maybe 150-200.

Attachments have the worth, that tractor is in pretty rough shape.

The 5 blade disc is not super common.

Tractor is a '74 or '75 model

You could have any number of issues

SSI module has finally burnt out ( about $150 for modern day replacement)

could be just a bad ignition switch shorting out ignition module

Wire feeding module from stator has shorted out.

Stator has wen bad.

Head has dropped a valve which is common on the OH160.

He is selling the whole lot for $200. My item that i am willing to trade him for, is usually valued at $400 last time i checked. I was coming here to make sure i wasn't being stupid as i feel like i am making a mistake if i proceed with the trade. And it is 35 mi away at that. I have a buddy that knows a lot more about engines than i do. But, he is a welder and don't hardly get any days off. And when he is off, he is not doing a darn thing.

That's a backwards trade. If you want it, I'd offer him a $ 100 bill but that's only because of the attachments and keep whatever it is you are thinking about trading.

you can have several hundred in that tractor before you know it.

I bought a 1977 16/6 ( ST16) for $150 with deck and 3pt a few years back. Tractor was in good condition, but he told me it just quit starting.  I researched it and knew a few things it could be. Ended up mice built a nest inside the tins, caused overheating of the head and it dropped the exhaust valve. $120 and it was running. 8 months later it burnt up the SSI module, another $150 to fix that, plus a carb cleaning, new voltage regulator, etc.

It's worth what ever you are willing to pay and he is willing to sell it for. Me, I may go 150 just for implements, tractors is really rough though.

Gave $125 for this one at a huge consignment auction that had bidders from all 48 of the continental U.S.of A. states.

Ran perfect, tires held air, and had a brand new battery for the sale.

I would give $300-$400 for it.

$100-$150 for the 3 point if it has the center link

Rear attachments are usually $100-$150+ each

42" Deck if Solid is worth $100 48" Deck if solid $150+

Wheel Weights $50

Tractor maybe $150 but I would not be buying it for the tractor.OHV Tecumseh engines are Evil. They don't like me lol
