So it's hard to start, but once going runs fine, cut most of my grass with it and worked good. Went back to the garage and let it ilde. Then shut it off. Waited a few seconds and restarted with out moving throttle, still on idle, a little hard to start, but does, but runs funny, then about 5 seconds later I hear a click, and it starts to run fine instantly. Do the same thing a few times and still the same.
Any ideas, please. 15 hp kohler single cyl.

Does it have a fuel solenoid? It could be hanging up

Didn't look yet but believe it does. Are they replaceable, or do you had to replace to carb.

You won't hear the fuel solenoid click if the engine is running. You can Just hear them click when you turn the key to the run position. Most times the click of the key turning is louder than the solenoid click.

When is the last time you did an oil change and filter on it (if it has a filter) and what oil did you use?

Your engine has hydraulic lifters. If they are not pumped up it will not want to idle the way it should. But you will hear a slight chatter from the head area untill they pump up.

I did an oil and filter change on the neighbors LT160 and it took about 1 minute for the lifters to pump up fully but ran great after that.

JD recommends ( 5w30 (-30*f to 90*f )) ( 10w30 ( 0*f to 110*f )) and ( 10w40 ( 0*f to 120*f+ ))

I used 10w30 Castrol GTX Hi Millage synthetic blend.Seems to hold up really good in the OHV Kohler engines. Doesn't thin out as much as the regular 10w30 oil when it's hot. And do not use a Fram filter.either use an OEM Kohler filter or a good Fleetguard filter.

If your oil is to thin your lifters will leak down pretty quick. Especially if there is alot of hours on the engine.

Some times a flat lifter will cause the push rods to bend if they jump out of the cup on the rocker.

Not mine. So don't know what was in it for oil. Going to Deere dealer to get the service parts. Oil and filters and blades and a coil.

Had the valve cover off, all seems ok in there.  And no solenoid on the carburetor.
