Dragged out the orbit air a few days ago to see if it would fire up, havent had it going in a few years so figured I'd put some gas in and let it run a while, it started on the first pull but then it was dumping gas out of the carb, opened it up and the float was filled with gas, Put in a new bowl, float , needle/seat and she was good to go again .

Where does it get it's name? When I read the thread title, I expected one of those mowers with no wheels.

Its all in the deck design, it was specially designed with a special blade & deck shell to chop the grass fine and then push it back into the lawn so you dont see it.

Even in long grass the grass just disappears when you mow it!

This style first came out around 1960 and lasted right up until Bolens officially went belly up.

The space race was on and a word of the times

"Orbit" was used to sell things and make nickels and dimes

The design of the mower and the times of the day

Helped with the name in the hopes customers would pay

For a design that worked and was technology leading edge

For keeping the grass of a home owners lawn neat next to a hedge
