I have a Simplicity 7016, The belt going from the PTO to the deck broke on me about a month ago, I figured it was a old belt so I replaced it, it made it through one mowing with issues, I went to go mow again yesterday and the belt rolled then broke. It is a super clean break, looks like it was cut in two with a sharp knife.

The bearings are all new in the deck, all the pulleys are tight and don't wobble, there is nothing out of the ordinary at least what I can see. Someone told me once that you have to run the decks on these mowers as low as they will go or they will break the belt, that doesn't sound right to me???

Anyone have any ideas???
Thanks

Sorry all I can say is

maybe just a bad defective belt

or just plain bad luck

could the tensioner spring be putting to much tension?

OK, I got to looking and I wonder if my belt isn't too tight?. The spring looks right, I wonder if my belt isn't a little short?. I will stick a size bigger belt on it tomorrow and see what it does. Thanks for the help

It runs off of the PTO on the side under the left fender

Make sure you are getting a Kevlar belt.  The FHP auto parts store belts won't last under those conditions.

What kind of belt are you using, a cheap auto parts belt will break in half as you described as its simply a fan belt and not meant for power rated applications
