I guess the hydrostat drive is out,it was mowing got real jerky ,wouldnt go up hill anymore then finally quit moving altogether,Is there any taking it apart and repairing or is it in need of a new rear end,I dont know much about how the insides work. The belts were good and in place,The mower has seen a million mile of heavy cutting(Aprox 3 acres each mowing)Anything else I can check? It is a foot control if it matters and the belt spins everything fine

I think you'll find that your Poulan was built by American yard products, not MTD.

That's a hydro? Looks like one of those plastic CVT transaxles. Also Looks like it's missing the short belt. Take a pic of the model number tag under the seat and post it and I'll look up the belt numbers for ya if you want.

oops  sorry I wasnt thinking about the fact I removed both belts prior to the pic,And as for being a hydro,,,Thats what everybody I know calls them,I stand corrected and am glad to have been educated!I will get the numbers and thanks for the vidioes  they really help,I do know that with no weight on the axle(raised from the floor)it will operate as its suppose to.As I said I dont know much about these.

Haven't had to work on one of the ABS plastic fiber or what ever there made of yet but they do look ridiculously overly complicated.Lots of small springs and linkages on the outside.

Wonder what's in the inside? Kinda want to tear one apart just to see how it works lol.

How many hours do you have on it? Might be time for new drive belts. Never replace just the 1 belt on a CVT mower. Replace them both at the same time. 1 will be stretched if the other one is worn. They work as a pair so replace them as a pair.
