Hello, I'm swapping out my old Craftsman 15.5 HP Briggs for a new 17.5 hp Briggs and there is a difference in the wiring, please see the video. Thanks!

 Welcome to the forum! I think we can help you out. I have a manual somewhere for a Sears with a 15 HP OHV. Wiring diagram should be in there.

Awesome! I think the difference is the old motor had wires coming from the stator and ran into the wiring harnes via a diode....but the new motor utilizes a voltage regulator...so now I'm not sure what (If anything) I need to plug into the old stator wire plug.

I'll have to go out back and get the model # for the one I have. Do you have the SEARS 917.?????? for yours? Should be under the seat.

OK, so looking at the wiring diagram I can see where everything goes...I'm just not sure what to do with the wire that goes to the lights as the new motor does not have a plug for them.  The new motor only has the carb solenoid plug and the single red wire for charging. In the end I really do not care if the lights work, I just want to make sure I am not going to hurt the electrical on the new motor in any way.

What is the model of the motor you are putting in? Briggs shows a exact replacement for the old one but it is a 15.5hp and not a 17

Old stator red wire was dc charge to battery , black wire unregulated a.c. volts to lights. If that helps you at all.
