Broken spring ,Where the heck does it go?

Its a poulan pro (made by husqvarna) with a hydrostat trans that customer says gets real lurchy then stops moving,,If he waits a minute it will usually start going again,Last time it didnt.After I cleaned out about a bale of hay from under the battery box over the rear end I see this broken spring ,Wonder if thats the problem or like I figure the hydro is shot

Looks like it goes to the same post as the one just above it, when you get a replacement. Probably holds it in neutral. Good Luck, Rick
