Hello I'm sure there's someone with the knowledge that can help me on here!

I've just bought a bolens 1050 in the UK. non original engine. No original body.Spares or repair as it's got no 1st gear/hi.
Does anyone have any advice/suggestions.
On repairing/replacing the gear or cluster?
Thanks
Ollie

I assume that the 15 tooth gear on the three gear cluster is damaged by someone not shifting gears properly.  There are two documents that may help you or if you post pictures of the problem in the Bolens section someone else may be able to help you with some information.

Here are the links to the two documents on the site

http://gardentractor...e-transmission/

Hope this helps.

Yes it looks like its been abused as there really isn't anything left of 1st.
2nd has seen better days!
Think it's a new cluster job possibly.
Will try upload some photos..

This is the company that I purchased the one that I used - https://www.motionca...sp?sku=00371791 .  There is a size chart from the Browning catalog on the last page of the pdf that I have highlighted the gear sizes and the page before illustrates the style.  I chose the Browning gear because it was made out of steel and could be welded - you may wish to verify that with whatever supplier you use as they may have changed the specs since I did mine a couple of years ago.

Welcome to GTT. Posting pics will help with discribing problems. Look in our Manuals Section for the manuals for your GT. I think that one of the Bolens Shop Manuals shows how to rebuild the transaxle. Good Luck, Rick

Here's some pictures.

Thanks for posting the pictures.  If you could find a good used three gear cluster at a reasonable price it would be the easiest way to fix it.  The bit of damage on the middle gear on the three gear cluster could be dressed with a file but the front gear needs to be replaced - a good machine shop should be able to do this for you if you do not have access to a lathe.  These transmissions were designed to be shifted with the tractor not moving and if people try and shift gears while moving the gears will grind resulting in damage.  There is also the clutch and brake arm linkage which can get worn or out of adjustment and result in grinding of the gears while shifting as well - how to adjust them is shown in the Tube Frame Service Manual in the manuals section - http://gardentractor...anual-552875-1/ on page 5-10.  Good luck with your repair.

Thanks for the Tips!
No access to a lathe fortunately.. A think asking a machinist/Shop might be my best option here in the UK as parts are hard to find.
After having the 1050 delivered 4 Days ago I Soon noticed the next day that the brake pad had worn down to the nuts.
and the clutch has had a metal baby food tin as a sort of cover round it!

Not to mention there's no original body work or original engine.

On the up side the rear difflock wasn't seized.

There are a few Bolens members from the UK on this site - if you post in the Bolens section ( http://gardentractor...-tractor-forum/  ) they may respond to your request better as they may not see your posts under the general Garden Tractor Forum  - just a suggestion.
