Some days I wonder if I am in this hobby too deep... As some of you know I can't navigate my shop, I get my information wrong (and I even have the manuals). I break things and can't keep on top of repairs or restorations. I can't focus, and I can't stand it. I can't get half my tractor parts for the right price, and don't know what to do anymore. I can't sell the ones I could sell, I keep looking to buy more, and I know if I sell out completely I will lose money. I got too much in my collection and don't know how I function at all to tell you the truth. If I could do it over I would have limited it to 5 tractors... but I'm up to 17 riders only, not including walk behinds... which are mostly in Dad's shop. I don't know how to gain anything on my collection cause if I sell anything I will most likely lose money on them. Can anyone help me know what to do?

I think the only cure to this situation is to give them all to me and start over.

I'll probably have to borrow pumpkintoter's truck to haul them back here. LOL

Okay by me Kenny. As long as we are helping him out as a team!
But seriously Casey. Work on 1 thing at a time and utilize the forum for parts suppliers that have the best prices. These guys have been around the block a few times and seem to know where to find parts at the best price. "Patience is a virtue"

Casey, I have several smart aleck answers, but If I were giving myself advice on this topic, start with making a list.
Columns: Model, serial, year, running, what's wrong, what attachments, notes.
Once they are all on paper, order them in priority. No, they cannot all be "1"

You don't have to limit yourself to 5, but set a mental number before you do this. Parts units for the ones you are keeping don't count, but you have to look yourself in the eye and say "This is a parts unit, it will live outside and I have no intention of restoring".

As for taking a bath on the ones you are selling. Of course you are looking to be ahead, but sometimes you have to cut your losses. My boss will sell older stock below cost to move it. Figures every year he owns it, it is losing him money he could invest in either newer or different fast moving items that will make money... In your case, shoot for breaking even, but they are tying up tractor or parts capital that you could be using to restore or repair with.

The mess in the shop, I can't help you with. My Dad and I both have that problem, let me know when you have a solution :D

Whenever I get overwhelmed by projects, I step away & take a break from them for several days. You'd be amazed how much clearer you think once you "unhook" for a short time. Then once you go back, you'll be able to focus much better & likely settle on working on only 1 or 2 at a time. Time for a mental vacation Casey!

If we can catch Pumpkintoter doing a deadhead, we can get them all a once.

Lots of good answers already stated.

Maybe just sell enough of the ones in the worst shape so you can get some walking room in the shop.
