I have a Gravely model L I purchased last fall at an estate sale. The serial number is 1715. I can't find any info about this serial number. The serial number charts online show the serial numbers starting at 2465. Anybody know anything about a serial number this low?

Welcome to GTT!!

You have a "Southern Region" tractor made in North Carolina 1958.  That's what the "SR" means just before your serial number.

It is  a very early 1958 model - being the 51st tractor built for the '58 year.

Thank you! That's great. I couldn't figure it out because it didn't seem that old. The engine looks like it's in good shape, it's very rusty and hasn't been used for a while.

I was also wondering what people thought about the old oil filter and if it's best to swap the mount to a new screw-on oil filter mount.

The old style oil filters are NLA,  No Longer Available.

Be a good idea to switch to the modern screw on filter if you are going to use it a lot.  Otherwise just change the oil more often.
