Those are listed as "used". Mine are "Used" also. To adjust these the stem needs to be carefully ground and polished to meet the specifications. I prefer new or new subistutes for my situation.

I've seen NOS valves listed as used because the boxes have shelf wear. It would be something to clarify with the seller before purchasing. I just listed that valve to show that what you need is still available through ebay. There are others listed with that same part number and others listed under the part number that supersedes 390420. Sometimes Briggs valves can have different part numbers for the same valve. You just have to make sure that a valve with a superseded part number takes the same keepers. I've run into two different types of keepers on the Briggs 23ci engines. I didn't think that you were looking for used valves, since you said that you needed new valves. Like I was saying, I would have asked that seller on ebay if they were actually used or just listed that way due to shelf wear. I've purchased many NOS parts listed as used due to shelf wear, since it would be far too costly for me to pay retail for a complete engine rebuild with NOS parts. It's just how it is when building multiple engines for multiple restoration projects. Well it looks like Bolens 1000 has you hooked up with new valves and that can save you some possible ebay grief.

One needs to be careful when purchasing "new" valves from ebay, or an unknown source.

The valve may have been ground for clearance, and when it was realized that too much of the stem was removed because the lifter was partially raised, the new valve was put back in the box before being lapped, and re-sold.

Of course, it will look like new, and it has never been used (run), so in the seller's mind it is still "new."

If you haven't found the valves, I'll check the 2 engines I have here with bad cranks. Might be able to pull a pair out and get you fixed up.

Thanks Kenny, I ordered the exhaust valves from ebay, they are Stens 505-044. The rest I ordered from partsandservice.com

not sure which engine I'll put them in yet. Probably the spare as it has the fewest hours after the initial rebuild.
