Is that a 2nd chain sprocket on the same side ,just in front of the box?

 

If you are talking on the back side of the guard, that's about where the tire would be. I'm thinking that might be a section of the rim that you are seeing.

Doug I thought maybe someone rigged up some type of ferterlizer box , like what's in my drop spreader or the fertilizer attachment on the Sears seeder , just spins around to keep it from clumping I think on those

I thought that too at first but it wouldn't make a lot of sense to only have it on one side. The same with the weight box theory. I'd question if the box is actually attached or if it's just setting there.

I thought the same as Alc at first as well. What I am sure of is that I'd hate to be the one hanging on to the handles when it was working. That would be some workout!
