At the open end of the 3" crank the keyway is .2360" when measured at the bottom of the keyway.

The PTO clutch keyway is .3765 measured the same way.

Clutch bore and bracket depth is 2.5" but the adapters I have found all go for 3" due to aligning the clutch on the crank and keeping it lined up with the mule drive.

Odd measurement on the crank, it's actually equal to 6mm. No problem, I'll just make a key that fits into the clutch, and is tall enough to fit through the shaft adapter, and cut the other side to 6mm wide. I might be able to get this made today!

Not done yet, I had an emergency job to do this afternoon. But the actual adapter only needs a couple of setscrews added. I'll do that and make the special key Monday morning. That chunk of material in the key slot of the adapter is the raw stock for the key.

Wow!  That is too cool to be able to make something out of thin air.  I so want to learn that skill and to be able to think like that!

I pulled the valve covers off yesterday and plan to adjust the valves today.  This is an turing out to be a project that challenges my brain and that is a good thing.

It helps to have a big scrap pile! I made it out of a piece of stainless steel leftover from making a bunch of little pressure vessels, it should last forever.

Is the clutch held on by a bolt into the end of the crankshaft? If it is, I don't need to put in the setscrews.

Yes it is but does it matter that the crank is 3" long?

I'm not sure, but I did make the adapter 3" long. I'll go ahead and put the setscrews in, to hold it on the crank.

Perhaps this thread should be moved to the Repower section in light of the current subject matter.  Mods, if this feels appropriate feel free to move this to that section.

Ready to go! Just PM me the address, I'll get it in the mail.

I put a small setscrew in the adapter, it'll hold the thing in place while you slide the clutch on.

Forgot to mention, I made the key 4" long, you can hacksaw it to the best length, and keep the rest as a spare.

It's a great way for me to take part in the hobby between plow days!
