At this point the additional items I will need are as follows:

  • Crank adapter
  • Muffler
  • driveshaft adapter

And I need to figure out if I have a B series or P series driveshaft

The eagle has landed. Installed blower housing air director, breather hose, plugs, and air cleaner. Pulled the blower housing to add the stub shaft but need torque wrench for crank nut.

That is one fastener that I have never in my life used a torque wrench on. on any brand of engine.

After some reading, I am wondering about the option of using a 1" clutch from a K series so I don't have to worry about the crank adapter for the Vanguard.

If you have the clutch and it fits, use it!

So today I spent some with the Vanguard and opened up the hole on the blower housing to clear the screen assemblies that go with the stub shaft kit.  I used the dremel, cutoff wheels, stones. and flapper wheels to smooth out the surface before repainting the blower housing.  Still working on getting the double pulley off of the crank but my Craftsman gear puller but the dust about half way through the project.

Grinder and chisel time? Or do you have plans for the pulley?

I am close to that approach. I had hoped to save it but am thinking it will be sacrificed.
