Went to my clubs meeting and was told by many that my Murray will not make it as a puller. Paid $100 sold it for $200 arter a few repairs. The guys all run either wheel horse or cubs. So I need a model number for a wheel horse or cub thanks.

If I was Pulling a stock WH, I would want a C-160. If your pulling CC, this will give you some info to start.  http://gardentractor...om/a1miller.htm

Not all WH 8 spds are equal. Some have 8 pinions, some have 4. Some have 1 1/8" axle dia., some have 1". You want 8 pinion, 1 1/8"; also some of them have posi. I'm not up on what all model tractors are which other than model #5091 trans, I think. Cvans might know.

Any gear drive Cub will do the trick.  It just depends if you plan on using the engine thats in or swap it for a bigger one.  If you are going to use what came in them I would get a 12hp model.  That was the largest single cylinder in a gear drive.  12hp gear drives are 124, 126, 128, 1200.

Landlords are amazing tractors. But they dont hold up like cubs do. It all depends on how much you want to build it. They dont take power like a cub does, FYI

Welcome, and i noticed its a variable, if its the same one your looking at.

A problem with that is, like a hydro, you can change speed mid way.

Not sure if there is rules against that or not.

It looks pretty straight, just needs some love. Around here, 150-200 would be a good range for that tractor, not sure on prices there

I would. I would focus on traction with it more than hp. Ive had one of those exact tractors, and i have another landlord with that same motor. They have PLENTY of power, and imo, its more about traction then power. If you want to do some upgrades on it, i would add a car coil. You would be suprised at how much it helps. It runs better, and your burning all the fuel that goes into the chamber, adding slightly more power. Those tractors are built like tanks, but they have limits. Dont push those limits, or youll break axles.
