Hi, brand new today to this group, but I have been trolling here for a bout a year. Against my father's wishes, I held on to my grandfathers g14's and finally rebuilt carb, starter, battery, ignition switch, air filter and housing, and got her running again. I also have two mower decks I am trying to identify with probably 75% of the linkage required. Where can I find the model of mower deck, more importantly will they work. Numbers behind gearbox? Not even sure if it's gear or hydro and I have ordered my parts from sam before. Thanks for the help. I'm tired of hours of dead end research, and felt I should join. Also willing to give up what I don't need(one of the decks). THANKS!

Did someone mention the PIC word again :dancingbanana:

We love pictures :)

As mentioned before  pics of tractor and decks

Picture is worth a thousand words and are sometimes easier to understand what help you need

Have you downloaded the manual for the tractor

Odds are that the manual is here in the manual section

You are allowed 3 downloads a day

I'll check out the manuals. I have the 20lb original manual around somewhere. I wanted to reiderate when I said against my parents wishes I took the tractor. My grandfather loved his tractors, was a mechanic, and told me to take all his gear head stuff before he passed as I was the only mechanic wise person left in the fam. As his knees have out in his 70's and I was 15, I had to do all his dirty work on machines while he yelled from above with cigar in mouth. I had to take the tractors before his house was gobbled up by a new hospital.
Pics tomorrow.
G14 1453 model
171.6786 or 171.8788. But I think the first(paint over gear box numbers)

It seems reasonable from here, if not honorable to follow up on his requests and continue that relationship through these tractors and other things. I can also relate to not always being on the same page with family on some issues. I'm kinda hoping they might come around to understanding why you chose your path in this. Likewise if the tractors aren't being kept at their place it should be, IMO, less of an issue for conflicts. Good Luck in continuing the legacy. my $00.02. Gt related, you've definitely come to the right place, enjoy GTtalk.

Here are the decks. Forgot the g 14, but included 6 moth old pics of them. Been busy trying to flip two houses, but would love to cut their lawns with the Bolens as they sit in the market here in NJ.

You guys already made me realize there is some linkage on the rusty seat "parts" g14 that I may need. That tractor is at my rental property "other late grandpas inherited house".

For the green deck use parts list:

For the Black deck with all the spring bracket mounts use manual:

Thanks for those diagrams! Do you suggest one over the other, green vs. black? And my black deck doesn't seem to have, or ever had a front roller. There are no weld spots on the deck to indicate it was ever there.

By the way. With correct linkage will both decks fit my g-14?

Thanks
John

Well that video I posted didn't work. Anyway, any difference between the black or green decks. I'm guessing I should go with the one I'm best repair. I am only missing a few links at this point . Also, seems thenignitionni bought at autozone fried my 20 amp fuse. Going to stick the original back in there but have no key. I think my grandfather used to use a flathead to start it. The auto zone ignition kept the starter cranking even after the mother was running, I had to turn key back to off for it to. Ot burn out. There's the other issue, there was no kill switch/off position so I had to choke it to turn it off.

Any experience with this. I prob should just fork over the $55 for a new original ignition, but would like an alternative.
Thanks
John

My opening to this thread I said I was "trolling here for a year". I thought trolling meant reading posts but not joining the group lol.

Anyway another question. Is My g14 is hydrostatic? I assume it is.

Finally got one cover off my black mower deck, every pulls has to be replaced as they are broken or rusty. Have to sawsall the green mower deck cover off and see what's up inside tomorrow. Figure I should replace EVERYTHING in one of my decks while I'm in this process to get a fault free reliable cutter.

Thanks
