Bought this on Saturday for $200, starts and runs good, needs a little TLC, previous owner said the variable speed eats belts when used in low, have to look into it, a buddy of mine who does machine work told me the pulley has ridges worn into it ( said he's seen that before) usually turning the pulley down .0020 one the inside on a lathe fixes that, otherwise I need to reinstall the brake drum (not sure why it was removed), and install a new starter generator belt, and should be good to go.

What's the cover down in front protecting? Looks awful low to the ground.

That covers the belt drive from the PTO to the drive shaft for the tiller.

After looking at the variator a little closer, the pulley on the transaxle is very loose, pretty sure that is why it's eating belts.

The torsion spring in the hub may be broken.  The spring is there to dampen vibrations in the drive line.

I will have to pull it off and see what is going on, I'm guessing that this spring is hard to get?

Probably a Gilson part that may be unobtainium. I have had the hub get loose on mine.

Worst case I will just solid mount that pulley like any other brand would have.

Essentially, yes. Except only the drive pulley changes diameter, by changing its width.




Top
