I am trying to pick out an engine to repower my Bolens 1886 with, as the old Kohler has a bad knock. I think I'm going with a Briggs and Stratton Vanguard v twin either 18 or 21 hp. I found a stub shaft that bolts onto the flywheel side of the vanguard on ebay for the pulley that drives the pto. If memory serves me right you need a ball bearing on the crankshaft to run a manual PTO (which the 1886 has). Is that correct? And if so does anyone know if vanguards have ball bearings on the flywheel side?
Help needed with Bolens 1886 re-power
