I'm hoping to pick up a 20 ton press this weekend and I found this.

For bending boxes, get the finger brake.

I just looked at them and you right a lot better for the boxes. In the video he was bending some thicker metal than I thought it would bend.

Ya me to. I could fabricate a new deck shell with that and my uncles plasma cutter instead of patching mine again.

Wonder what gauge steel it can bend? I can get 11ga 4x10 sheets of ASTM A606 COR-TEN for $190.

Cor-Ten is high strength and corrosion resistant. 1 Sheet will make a 50" fab deck with some well planned cutting and a plasma cutter. Lots of extra cutting and welding would be needed with a press brake that small.

I have 4 sets of spindles with replaceable bearings and a couple rough Cub Cadet decks for the mounting hardware.

I'm building one now with a 1" round die to make a bend for a hood that I am making.

HF used to sell a press brake for use with their shop presses. I have a couple of home made hand brakes that are handy for small light work but I was thinking of making a press brake for my 30 ton press to handle small heavier work.

A friend built the Mother Earth News brake years ago and I used his for awhile. It is an excellant design and easy to use. I will try to find the plans.

Years ago, I collected some 4" x 4" x 1/2" x 9' angles to make an 8' brake for pickup bodies. I also collected some 3/4" x 12' snow plow cutting edges.  If you can pick up a used cutting edge from your town garage or scrap yard, the holes in the steel will make it easier to assemble. Good Luck Rick

These are the plans for a brake  http://diybooksplans...l Box Brake.pdf

Use several different lengths of channels to get it to work like a finger brake.
