I have a 604 hr in very good shape garage kept 1864. I have about 1/2 acre lot . Somebody I know real well has a 260 hr 3184 cub. I am thinking of buying his and selling mine, would that be like going up the scales. I also, use mine to clean snow with it,and it works very well.
I like the foot control on the 3184 and it does have all the plastic, but I wasn't sure how they hold up. It has a different rear end than mine. thx

personally i think the older ones are better. there is a 782 were i work down the street. looks a little beat up, but what a strong tractor. i would never own an MTD produced machine. for me its either IH or nothing. i mow 2 acres with a 147 and it does great. you only have a 1/2 acre, geeze i could do that with a push mower.

why do you think i bought a house with 2 acres. i needed some land to play on. if im bored and want even more seat time, i can go mow across the street. its a maple syrup shack, no one lives there but he keeps it mowed, well i keep it mowed. he gives me gas money. weird thing is, i enjoy mowing. its relaxing. there is probably an acre over there and i mow it bi-weekly

You want to trade a Garden Tractor for a Lawn Mower?

Other than the tighter turning radius, the foot controls and the newer style deck on the 3184,your 1864 is hands down the better built machine.
I would put power steering on your 1864 if it doesn't have it and keep it Forever.

Power steering will help Alot with your smaller yard.

I agree with Eric, If you want something to last your lifetime and do anythin, stay with the 1864. IMO

isnt the 3000 series a "garden tractor"? arent they both made by MTD(yuk). i would rather get rid of the 1864 and buy a 982 or something along those lines maybe a 782 built by IH
