Recently acquired this unit.  Rebuilt carb, fixed stuck intake valve, new tune up parts.  Starts and runs great.  Big problem though, the driveshaft.  One end was broken off at the flange.  I obtained a used (longer) one and shortened it.  Now attempting to put it back in.  Aargh!   I've removed the steering shaft, pinion and quadrant gear, but still not enough clearance to get it in.  On my tractor there is a lever for fwd/rev under the steering wheel which actuates through a sleeve around the steering shaft.  This has a lever attached to it, and that lever is causing the clearance issue.  Anyone on here had one of these driveshafts out before?  Sure could use the advice.

Welcome to GTT. Nice looking machine. Try our Manuals Section for the manual that may help you. I've only played with a drive shaft on my Simplicities(they made the Homelites) when the engine is out. It is all tight working spaces. Good Luck, Rick
