Ok, i got a new ammeter, but i cant remember which wire goes on postitive and which on negative. I got one side that has a red and black wire, the other is just a red wire...dont wanna burn it up by hooking it up wrong...

Tractor is s MTD 860, 11hp briggs

Help?

Don't believe it will burn it up, it will only indicate backwards.

The wire that's hot coming from the battery would go on the positive side.

Do not measure across a battery or load like measuring voltage. Current is measured inline, ie disconnect the battery terminal and connect it through the meter.

I got it figured out guys, shoulda trusted my instincts, lol, got it first shot and it even read correctly.

Just didnt wanna burn up a 20 dollar ammeter, or fry the wireing, or burn the shop down
