Is the GT 5000 anywhere near the size of my FF-18?

No, the FF 18-24's were the largest GT ever sold under the Sears or Craftsman nameplates.

The FF/18 probably outweighs the GT5000 by at least 200 pounds, depending on what year the 5000 is.

 The physical dimensions are similar, but think of it this way:

 

FF = quality built, tough machine made to give service as a tractor

GT = disposable piece of poo made to sell and not actually use
