What exactly is the tractor doing when it stalls? Does it just cut right out?

well i drove it around the house 3 and a half times, it stall on the other side of the yard. i had to use a 1998 weed eater lawn tractor to tow it back to the driveway, not easy ok? but my friend thinks the battery is so dead and doesnt hold charge that the reason it stall usually 15 seconds after i take it off the jumpers is the battery doesnt hold a charge at all. therefore theres no electric to make spark. think its possible?
It's very possible if you haven't charged the battery. Do you have a battery charger? If you don't you can hook the jumper cables up to it from a car and let it run for about 10 minutes. Then start it and if it runs longer then before you know why. Hopefully you have a battery charger and can try charging the battery, it might be alright if you can trickle charge it. Might have to dig in to the charging system on the tractor then and find out why it isn't charging the battery.

i tried charging the battery, its from 1986 and it holds not a milliwatt, if there is such a thing. i tried 3 battery charges, a diehard a snap on quick charger and a big snap on charger, nothing.
Yes I would definitely replace the battery then.

im gonna take the battery out of the dodge put it in the bolens and see if the stalling stops. if it doesnt well then its something else.
Let us know how you make out with the other battery.
