Another member here picked this tractor up last spring and we talked a little about it,then I didn't hear anymore about it.
Then this 725 showed up in a Facebook for sale group just a few miles across the line into IL.from me. I kept seeing it over a week or two but my tractor fund was empty.
It caught my eye because it had already had a model 23 engine swap and came with 2 decks and a dozer / snowplow.
Finally I sent him a message offering to do some trading. We worked out a deal and a buddy and I ran over to get it.
He also ended up throwing in a spare model 23 engine with it and I picked up a pair of nice Firestone 6-12 ag tires on wheels for it from him while I was there.
I also ended up picking up a Simplicity walk behind tractor from him that needs work and a cool old Jacobsen push mower while we were there.
Once I got there and talked to the guy while looking the 725 over I was surprised to figure out this is the same 725 that another member here had drug in last spring that we had talked about a little trying to give him a hand on some issues it had.
I brought it home and took off the incorrect seat and straightened the fenders up first thing ( the always bent fenders are a personal pet peeve),then stuck a correct grill on it and swapped to a still correct but matching set of front tires and wheels.
I also replaced the rope cup on the bevel gear box that was missing and have a rear lift ready to go on it since the original is missing.
The tractor seems to run good and I hope to have time over the winter to address some issues with it and maybe get a correct seat on it and the 700. I would like to get some paint on it over the winter but not sure I will get that far.

Nice find! Are you interested in selling any parts off the 23D engine, please? Starter and all the bits, including starter switch, air cleaner. Have you any spares that I could use on my 700, - grill, grill side brackets, plastic grip for lift lever, please?

Nice treasures. I would like you to clarify something: will a 23 engine fit on a 725? My 725 developed a rod rap and I stopped using it. I've got a spare 23 engine on a generator. Will it fit? Good Luck, Rick

 

Dince, look for old generators and pumps to find the old B&S castiron engines. I found 3 that way and they were low hours.

Rick the 23 is a fairly easy fit. The basics of it is you have to drill two new motor Mount holes,don't use the factory spacer plates used under the model 19,you will have to grind the oil drain hole down a tad lower and with that its pretty much a bolt in.
To get the air cleaner to clear the hood you will have to work with different length air cleaner horns off the carb and on the starter generator side I used two (double adjustment brackets to get the starter generator out far enough to clear the hood.
They will tell you that you have to notch the frame to get a 23 or bigger in but you do not. I can go more into detail on the swap if you have more questions.
I put a model 23 in my 700 last winter and several years back I had a 725 with a 24 c.i.10 HP in it. Neither has the frame notched out.

Merry Christmas! Are you interested in selling any bits off your spare 23D engine, please? I'm seeking a complete setup for an electric starter, brackets, wiring, regulator, switch, etc, and an air cleaner, complete, to fit onto the carby. I am also chasing a grill and the side bits that secure it to the hood, for my Simplicity 700.

In your first photo above, it looks like you have jacked up the seat? Looks like good idea - I'm over 6 feet tall! How did you do it?

Dince I really don't have any spare parts to let go of at the minute. The seat setup on it when I got it was all out of keelter so it was one of the first things I removed. It is too wide for the pan and was bending the fenders.the seat is on a spring setup. It is an interesting setup and homemade I would guess.
