OK, this is to much already. While just researching a Jacobsen to get, I accidentally come across a Bolens for sale to. Remember I am a wheel horse collector, also have a case ingersoll. I know nothing of these other brands.
Anyway, this is a running machine, the kohler sounds pretty darn good to, it looks to be fairly complete, no seat with it. Can a seat be found? The current owner sends me a video of it running. I have been looking for a late 50s model, but, like I said this falls in my lap.

So, question is for you Bolens folks, do you see things I Don't? Can you comment please on such items, what do I look for when going to see it. Any particular things to watch out For? Trans slip, shifting problems, rear noises, etc.......

For a $ 300 dollar asking price I am compelled to take a half hour drive to look.
Does that price sound within reason, or what would a fair offer be. There are no attachments, just some plow that's jimmy rigged for the tractor. Not sure I even want that.
Anyway, here's some pictures sent to me, all Bolens comments from you pros appreciated.

Thanks, Glenn

If it starts, runs, drives, steers & stops properly and you have storage space it may be good to collect for trading material. From seeing the adds posted on here from your area I would think $300 would be very close to top dollar for the apparent condition.   Don

Get in the car Glenn, I think the price is spot on since it  runs and appears complete the seat is no big deal. I would try him at 250.00 its Christ mass.

Like others have said, better get on your way, those belt guards are usually missing and a big plus having them, remember that's an asking price so there's some wiggle room

I would try to get the guy down on the price it is good the belt guard are all there but the rear lift parts are not on the tractor also no attachments hurts the asking price.   Also a brand new seat is around $25-$30 on ebay.    The tractor  is a 1961 by the way.

Glenn, it looks like you have the "blessings" of the "big dogs" on the Bolens page.  Go for it. Horrible wrong color, but nice machine!

The belt guard on the left side, is that a patch up top? Just asking.
I notice the gas fill cap tilted, must have took a hit, just some observations is all.

That gas cap is odd maybe it just not sitting on the tank flat?   That does look like a patch on the guard there known to vibrate lose and may needed to be re tacked back on.

Lovely patina on that one and a seat can be bought fairly cheaply and quickly I would have thought in your part of the world. I would grab it with both hands!

That is the high end in the pricing. Try for less, like $225-250 max. I have a parts tractor that has the rear lifting parts that I can sell if you buy it. I'm in Connecticut. These are cool little tractors. I now have 7 of these in various years. It's good the guards are there. The Kohler engine is the correct one. Attachments do turn up now and then, especially plow blades. They're a $50 dollar item at best. Mower decks can go for more, depending on condition. Rear tillers are one of the toughest to find and are pricey. I'm still looking for one.
Good luck and if you get it, enjoy it!

The Bolens owner found this piece that attaches to the rear. My question ,, is this the correct piece that's missing as has been Commented?

Glenn
