Last time I used to mow some tall grass it got very hot and died. It also leaked gas out of the carb every time I started it up after and shut it off. Yesterday I pulled the air cleaner off to look at at it and it appeared to clogged up. Left it off while I mowed some leaves, mower does a good preliminary job of chopping them, and it ran the whole time without bogging down or getting too hot. I am assuming that has been my problem with running hot with a rich mixture and eventually a vapor lock when it couldn't get enough gas. I have ordered a new filter and should get it in a few days then we will see what will happen. Still haven't tried to work it yet at full throttle. Deer gun season starts monday so I will have to wait a couple weeks really try ti out.
My 7012 hadn't been running very good.

Always mow at full throttle. Engines cool better when run full bore. Probably why it got hot, running it to slow. Double true if it is a hydro. They were meant to run wide open.

Must be nice to be mowing AFTER gun season?? Lol
We have had a lot of warm weather this fall and the grass had been growing. The owner of the property that I hunt has medical issues in the family this year and didn't have time to mow the lanes in the woods.
If I run it at full throttle for work it would overheat and shut off quicker.
