I recently purchased a new Sears garden tractor 917.204080 and want to use a snowblower from my old one. The blower is the same number as the required one. Problem is that the pulley for the electric clutch on the tractor is 3/4 inch and snow blower is 1/2 inch. Anybody know if I can just use the 1/2 belt on the 3/4 inch pulley of will I have to jerry rig something. Thought about calling Sears but they haven't been much help in the past and will save them as a last resort.

In advance thanks for any help........

 Welcome to the forum! What is the model # for the blower? Maybe change the blower pulley?

If the 3/4" pulley is the type that the 2 sides of the vee taper down to almost nothing, yes you can probably run the 1/2" belt in it. If the pulley has a flat spot below the vee's , the I'd say no. As said I'd try to find a 3/4" pulley for the blower because it will need the full transfer of power in wet snow.

Model no. is 486.24837, 42" 2 stage snow thrower, looks like the mounts will work, have to check on the pulley set up on the blower mount. I bought it in 2011 for my craftsman 18.5 hp tractor. Just dug the mount out, it's 5/8, not 3/4 so guess I'll wait until done mowing and figure it out. Thanks for the input, and I'll let you know how I make out.

Thanks for all the input. I checked and all the pulleys are the same size so I ended up using 5/8 for both the drive (off clutch) and blower pulley. After some hit and misses on pulley lengths I found 2 that work.. Blower turns fine but true test will be with snow.

Again, thanks and thumbs down to Sears, Husquavarna and Agrifab for advertising a snow blower that supposedly fits but does not without modifications.
