I need a new starter,I thought no problem except I am coming up dry on numbers to order on with(none on the starter itself)The tractor itself is a fairly unmolested tractor but the tags are rough,What I have so far is (tractor is a 1220 )Model number is 18703 according to the tag but says nothing on the serial number spot ,That looks to be all there is on the tag on the frame on the right side of the tractor as you are sitting on it ,There is another tag on the frame on the other side(left)that also says model number 0 and no serial number??????????,Motor is the original I believe by the looks of it and the tag reads as follows,Model HH1201200618 and the serial 8159 any help is great and thank you in advance!I need to get it running and have her ready for winter(nice snow blower)I bought the tractor in august I think it was and just now have had time to get it running.

I have a Bolens 1253 with a Tecumseh 12 HP Model HH 120.  It looks like it is very similar to your tractor.  Mine had a bad starter also, which I replaced with an aftermarket starter (Tecumseh Starter PN 33835) off of eBay.  It works great. I looked at your pictures and I'm sure that is the same starter tucked in there near the exhaust.

Another alternative, as others will no doubt mention, is to take your OEM starter to a starter shop and have them repair it.  I'm sure that works fine, but I didn't want the hassle of doing that and just went with the aftermarket route.

Oh, the starter I bought was a NOS aftermarket, not Chinese...  :)

That #18703 number is the model number for the hydraulic lift attachment which was added to the tractor.   ....The hydraulic lift was not installed at the factory, but could have been installed by the dealer at time of purchase, or added any time later.

The tag on the left side, adjacent to the footrest would have had the tractor model & serial numbers.

The actual model of the Bolens 1220 is # 193-01.  ....It was a one-year only model for the year 1969.

The Tecumseh engine is a Model HH120 with a Spec # 120061B.

Don't be afraid to open the starter to check things out.  ....Mark the case parts so they go back together in the same orientation.  ....Depending on what is wrong with your starter, it may just need cleaning or minor repairs.

In the model number section on the left side the only number stamped on that tag is 0,right dead center of the model number section.as for the starter itself I did open it and clean it 2 wires inside were burned in half I repaired them but still no go,Dang the luck

The modal numbers and serial number will fade on those tags most of the time you cant read them if the tractor been out side most of its life.

The 33835 Starters went NLA in 2015 , aftermarket is the only option, how ever you may be able to repair your old one.

If you need an aftermarket I can get them, if you shop elsewhere stay away from the ones under $50 they are pure crap from the docks of china!

yep those are the ones, may just be the older version you have, the part number should be cast somewhere on the starter so you can double check
