I have had several K321 model Kohler engines over the years, but never saw or heard of a Kohler K331.  none of my Kohler books even list this. was it an engine marketed elsewhere?

The engine that sparked my curiosity is on an old looking Miller welder.

Never heard of it. Could it have been a special for a certain manufacturer?

There pretty hard to come by but they did make a K330 and K331 12.5hp.They are a physically larger engine.173 lbs and 36.6 C.I.

Seen a couple on old Economy Power King tractors from 1964-1965 and a few on old generators from the late 50s early 60s.They were the only single cylinder Kohler with an oil pump.

Apparently the Only parts that's interchangeable from any other Kohler engine is the Cam cover gasket and Points cover gasket. There similar size to the 16hp K341.

They are kind of an odd duck in the kohler family, only used in Gen sets and a few PK models from what I have seen.

Looks like a pressurized oiling system in the video.  Bet those last for-ever!

After doing quite a bit of digging I found that K330 / K331 piston, rings, valves, valve guides, valve springs, head gasket and rod bearing are the same as used in the K660 / K662.Oil pump may be the same to but don't quote me on it.

K660 / K662 are hard to find parts for to but not nearly as much so as the K330 / K331.

Weakest part on the K330/331 is the oil pump drive gear.Cold Weather starting using 30wt oil will cause the gear to strip eventually because good old 30wt is really thick (almost like tar) when the temps drop.Might be better to install a block heater or run 5W-20 or 5W-30 or a good 15w50 synthetic oil.
