I am mounting a 3 point hitch to my JD 400.  Let's say I have the weights necessary to lift with the hitch and now I need to know what the limitations are for the hydraulic cylinder.  I have a 48" grader blade and it is quite heavy.  My Snapper 1855 handled it very well but at the same time I would like to know what what the limitations are before I try other implements without blowing some gaskets.

Does this make sense?

I'm not sure what you mean about blowing gaskets? If your wondering wether or not it will lift it. I say hook it up and try it. Either it will lift it or it won't. Every thing in the hydraulic system is designed to handle the pressure the pump can produce.  If you worried about over working the tractor itself. Again the best way to find out is to try it.

As with most hydraulic systems, there's pressure relief valves. That prevents things blowing up or out. I'm guessing that 400 will lift 4 to 500 lbs readily. Maybe not fast on the upper end but it will do it. Like was already said. Hook it up and try. It'll either do it or not.

I don't believe it will blow a gasket.

Hydro cyls, use O-rings

Good luck, and cheers!

Thanks guys.  I will take your advice and just see what it will do.  The 400 cylinders look great.  So I will give them a chance to show me what they can do.
