One of the coolest dogs I ever met was a mutt (some black lab in him) named "SNARF."

It was  a combination of "snarl" & "woof."

I had a girlfriend who did that a lot.

I still don't see what's wrong with calling him "Dane."   :D

Best we've come up with so far is Junior. I kind of like it but not enough to decide on it.

He is going to grow up to be a big heavy dog much like a Harley so how about Hawg?

We tend to name our dogs by the situation we acquired them.  The dog we got about a year ago we named Trooper because he weathered a storm the night we found him.  Buster got his name because he is always trying to bust the other dogs chop's and Seba because my wife thought she was a black fox when she was a puppy.  All 3 dogs were a stray and just found their way here.

We went with Kota. It means happiness in Japanese and as a nipponophile I loved it.

Nice name and a good meaning.
I went ahead and just put the word in google, some Malaysian and Hindu dialects use the word too.
Depending on where, it means socket, nail, quota, or apathy.
I think you chose the right language to choose that word from.

I must have never been happy while I was in Japan as I learned a new word this evening.

Neat name and not one you will run into everyday. I hope he turns out to be a wonderful companion for you.

PS.

Now your going to have to get a loader so you can clean up after Kota.
