OUCH!

Yep had that happen on a couple of those Foote/Spicer/Dana transaxles.

It's either the Diff gears or the input gear or the bevel gear has teeth worn off.Betting it's the Differential gears though. If it was the input gear or the bevel gear on the main shaft it would make a pretty noticeable grinding sound in every gear.

If you continue to use it with bad differential gears it will split the bull gear in 1/2 and send it through the bottom of the transaxle.

The small gears are usually the ones that fly apart.

A good replacement for one is a Peerless 930 with Bronze bushings Or better yet a Peerless 820 needle bearings. They are near identical on the outside but they have Alot heavier gears. The Differential gears and bearings are the main difference. The Foote or Spicer doesn't have

Go find another one and swap the transaxle out.I parted out 3 of those tractors a couple months ago.Bought all 3 for $100 and actually made a couple bucks off of them before I scrapped what was left lol.

Transaxles sold quick spindles sold pretty quick and I still have 1 good 11hp Briggs left out of the last one.

Here is another spicer for $35.Don't know if it would be worth the time and aggravation of shipping it though.

eric, thanks for the info,

looks like a peerless swap may be the best way to go,

the gears for the foote are nla,and used gears may not be my best bet,

                                                                        thanks, doug

I would try to find a parts tractor. There are a bunch of those still around.Sometimes people will just give them away to get them off of there property.Who cares if the deck is rotted out or the engine is blown up lol.
